[Outer membrane protein 100] This protein is produced by Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, one of the pathogenic bacteria involved in periodontal diseases and is a versatile virulence factor. Omp100 is randomly localized on the cell surface and promotes adhesion and invasion of normal human gingival keratinocytes. Antibodies directed against Omp100 antibody reduce adhesion and invasion. Knock-out strains lacking expression of Omp100 also show decreased adhesion and invasion efficiency.
Escherichia coli HB101 expressing Omp100 shows enhanced adherence and invasion and shows resistance to serum by trapping factor H, an inhibitor for C3b, with Omp100. Omp100 also induces inflammatory cytokine responses (
