This protein is encoded in the genome of orf virus and has been shown to inhibit functions of transcription factor NF-kappa-B.
ORFV002 expression in cell cultures significantly decreases gene expression induced by wild-type-virus, TNF-alpha, and lipopolysaccharide and mediated by NF-kappa-B by interfering with the acetylation of the NF-kappa-B p65 subunit, which influences the interaction with another protein, p300. Deletion of ORFV002 does not influence viral pathogenesis in sheep, indicating that ORFV002 is not essential for virulence in the natural host (Diel et al, 2011).
