Hilton et al (1994) have cloned a member of one of the Cytokine receptor families, designated Nr1, from an adult mouse liver cDNA library by using oligonucleotides corresponding to the conserved WSXWS motif of this receptor family. Nr1 is most similar in sequence and predicted structure to the alpha-chain of the IL6 receptor. Nr1 mRNA is expressed in the 3T3-L1 cell line (pre-adipocytes) and in a range of primary tissues. Expression of Nr1 in BaF3 cells results in the generation of low affinity receptors for IL11 (Kd approximately 10 nM). High affinity binding of IL11 with high affinity (Kd = 300-800
