NT-3
[neurotrophin-3] also: neuronotrophin-3, neurotrophic factor-3; abbr. also: NTF3, which is the approved gene symbol. This factor is called also HDNF (hippocampus-derived neurotrophic factor). A sequence comparison shows that NT-3 is identical with NGF-2.
NT-3 is found in neurons of the central nervous system. NT-3 is expressed also in muscles and its expression is downregulated in denervated muscles. Many human gliomas express and secrete NT-3 into the conditioned medium.
NT-3 is a basic protein (pI = 9.3) of 119 amino acids. It is synthesized as a precursor with a secretory signal sequence
