[Natural killer cell p44-related protein] In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD336 (Warren, 2005). The approved gene symbol is NCR2 [natural cytotoxicity receptor 2]. The receptor exists in multiple splice variants and is generally regarded as an activating receptor. It exists in multiple splice variants, and some of these are inhibitory rather than activating receptors (for overview see: Shemesh et al, 2018).
This cell surface antigen has been identified by Vitale et al (1998). The gene has been cloned by Cantoni et al (1999). NKp44 is only present and expressed in humans
