[netrin-G1 ligand] The approved gene symbol for this protein is LRRC4C [leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 4C]. The cDNA has been identified independently as KIAA1580.
Lin et al (2003) have identified human NGL-1 as a transmembrane protein containing leucine-rich repeats (LRR) and immunoglobulin domains that specifically interacts with netrin-G1 through its LRR region. NGL-1 is most abundant in the striatum and the cerebral cortex, the intermediate and final targets, respectively, of thalamocortical axons that express netrin-G1. Surface-bound NGL-1 stimulates, but soluble NGL-1 disrupts, the growth of embryonic thalamic axons.
