Monocyte suppressor factor

abbr. MSF (a term with multiple meanings). This factor of 50-60 kDa is secreted by human monocytes. It inhibits the antigen induced proliferation of T-cells. In a costimulation assay with thymocytes this factor inhibits the activity of soluble IL1 but not that of membrane-bound IL1 (IL1-alpha). MSF has been suggested also to inhibit the release of IL1 from its membrane-bound form. MSF is identical with PAI (plasminogen activator inhibitor) (Goeken et al, 1989).
