Miple2
(an acronym from midkine and pleiotrophin) This Drosophila melanogaster gene has been identified by Englund et al (2006). It is encoded by gene CG18321. Miple2 is a secreted protein related to mammalian Midkine and Pleiotrophin. It is related also to Miple1. Sequence alignments of human Midkine and Pleiotrophin with Miple1 shows that all cysteine residues are conserved (Svensson et al, 2010).
Miple2 and Miple1 are expressed in spatially restricted, nonoverlapping patterns during embryogenesis. High level expression of Miple2 is observed in the developing midgut endoderm.
