Miple1

(an acronym from midkine and pleiotrophin) This Drosophila melanogaster gene has been identified by Englund et al (2006). It is encoded by gene CG1221 and is being referred to also as Miple. Miple1 is a secreted protein related to mammalian Midkine and Pleiotrophin. It is related also to Miple2. Sequence alignments of human Midkine and Pleiotrophin with Miple1 shows that all cysteine residues are conserved (Svensson et al, 2010).

Miple1 and Miple2 are expressed in spatially restricted, nonoverlapping patterns during embryogenesis.
