[myeloid cell nuclear differentiation antigen; Myeloid nuclear differentiation antigen] A databank synonym is PYHIN3 [pyrin and HIN domain family member 3; Pyrin and HIN domain-containing protein 3]. The gene has been cloned by Briggs et al (1992). MNDA protein is expressed specifically in granulocytes, monocytes and macrophages, and earlier stage cells of these lineages (Briggs et al, 1994) and its expression is subject to upregulation by IFN-alpha (Briggs et al, 1994, 1994; Kao et al, 1996). The protein is located in the nucleus and can bind DNA (Duhl et al, 1989).
