[mammalian IAP homolog C] The cDNA for this protein has been isolated by Uren et al (1996) together with those encoding MIHA and MIHB. The protein contains 3 copies of a BIR domain in the N-terminal region and a single RING finger domain near the C-terminus. MIHC shares 73 % identity with MIHB and 43 % identity with MIHA.
MIHC does not inhibit apoptosis caused by overexpression of ICE but inhibits apoptosis induced by serum withdrawal. The protein binds to TRAF1 and TRAF2 and also interacts with the apoptosis-inhibitory protein SMAC. The protein has been renamed
