[Mast-cell-function-associated antigen] A glycoprotein identified on RBL-2H3 cells, which inhibits the secretory response induced by the Fc-epsilon R1 receptor (see also: Fc receptors). MAFA clustering induced by monoclonal antibody G63 inhibits the de novo synthesis and secretion of IL6 induced by the Fc-epsilon R1 stimulus (Guthmann et al, 1995). The protein appears to be a member of the family of C-type lectins (Guthmann et al, 1995) and has marked sequence homology with several members of the C-type (calcium-dependent) animal lectin family.
