RBL-2H3
This rat cell line, derived from rat basophilic leukemia, is used widely for studies of mast cell biology and is frequently being referred to as a mast cell cell line (for overview see: Passante and Frankish, 2009). The cells do not require exogenous growth factors such as SCF or IL3 and carry a gain-of-function mutation of Kit, the receptor for SCF (Tsujimura et al, 1995).
RBL-2H3 cells share similarities with basophils and thus are considered to be an imprecise and inappropriate model for mast cell
