The Lyb8.2 B-cell differentiation antigen recognized by monoclonal antibody CY34 has been described by Symington et al (1982). Lyb8.2 appears to be expressed on pre-B-cells and on all mature B-cells. Law et al (1993) have shown that antibody CY34 against the Lyb8.2 B-cell marker reacts with a BHK cell transfectant expressing the full-length murine CD22 cDNA, thus demonstrating that Lyb8 and CD22 loci are identical. They have demonstrated also that the CD22 protein is expressed by the CD22a / Lyb8a allele.
