[lymphocyte antigen 6C] Ly6C is a glycoprotein expressed mainly in hematopoietic cells. It is encoded by the Ly6 locus, which encodes at least seven structurally related molecules (Shevach and Korty, 1989; Fleming et al, 1993). Another designation is Ly6C1 [lymphocyte antigen 6C1]. A monoclonal antibody, RB6-8C5, detects Gr-1 [granulocyte differentiation antigen 1] as an epitope on Ly6C.
The expression of Ly6C on lymphocytes in Ly6.1 mouse strains is restricted to a subset of peripheral CD8(+) T-cells (≈ 50 % positive) (Shevach and Korty, 1989). Monocytes,
