[leucine proline-enriched proteoglycan] This chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan is found in the conditioned medium of L-2 cells. The protein localizes to the basement membrane. The core protein also possesses the endoplasmic reticulum retrieval signal, KDEL, which suggests that, in addition to its role as a basement membrane component, it may also participate in the secretory pathway of cells (Wassenhove-McCarthy and McCarthy, 1999). The approved gene symbol is LEPRE1 [leprecan-1].
