[LAP and no PDZ] The approved gene symbol is LRRC1 [Leucine-rich repeat-containing protein 1].
This protein contains an LRR domain with 16 leucine-rich repeats but no PDZ domain and is present only in vertebrates. It shows strong identities with members of the family of LAP proteins, which are crucial for maintaining the architecture of epithelial cells.
The protein is located at the basolateral side of epithelial cells in a similar manner to Erbin and human Scribble and may be a polarity organizer. Lano forms complexes with MAGUK proteins and Erbin in
