(approved gene symbol) [LYR motif containing 1] This gene is expressed highly in omental adipose tissue of obese subjects but expressed also in other tissues. Ectopic LYRM1 expression does not significantly affect adipogenesis. LYRM1 promotes pre-adipocyte proliferation and can inhibit cell death by apoptosis of pre-adipocytes, suggesting that LYRM1 may modulate the size of the pre-adipocyte pool and influence adipose tissue homeostasis. (Qiu et al, 2009).
Free fatty acids and TNF-alpha upregulate LYRM1 expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, whereas resistin and rosiglitazone inhibit expression (Zhang et al, 2012).
