[acronym derived from Lysine-rich CEACAM1 co-isolated] This protein has been identified by Britt et al (2004). The protein is localized to tight junctions of polarized epithelial cells. Sutherland et al (2004) have identified the same protein as 3D3/LYRIC and identified it as a transmembrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear envelope, which is present also in the nucleolus. The protein is identical with AEG-1 [astrocyte elevated gene-1] and has been implicated in tumor progression, metastasis, chemoresistance, and cell death by apoptosis. The approved gene symbol is MTDH [metadherin]. See: metadherin.
