[lacto-N-fucopentaose III]
[lacto-N-fucopentaose 3]; abbr. also LNF-3. This structure was identified first in a glycolipid isolated from human adenocarcinoma (Yang and Hakomori, 1971). The same sugar sequence without the glucosyl residue also occurs in higher glycolipids (Hakomori et al, 1981) and in glycoproteins (Lloyd et al, 1968). This moiety is found as an oligosaccharide in milk (Kobata and Ginsburg, 1969), contains the Lewis X trisaccharide, and has been identified as My-1 antigen.
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this pentasaccharide moiety has been given the designation CD15.
