[lymphocyte migration inhibitory factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of approximately 14 kDa exists as a monomer and a dimer. It is produced by macrophages and inhibits the migration of lymphocytes (Ye and Cheung, 1989).

The term is used also as an operational definition for a biological activity rather than for a distinct factor. See also: LIF (leukocyte migration inhibitory factor).
