LEM

[Lymphocyte Expansion Molecule] This mouse protein has been identified by Okoye et al (2015) by virtue of its ability to promote antigen-dependent CD8(+) T-cell proliferation, effector cell function, and memory cell generation in response to infection with human lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus, which is known to cause deletion and immune exhaustion of cytotoxic T-cells and a block in memory CD8 T-cell development. Upregulation of LEM in mutant mice, termed Retro, show restored cytotoxic T-cell immunity to chronic viral infection and tumor challenge and also increased memory cell development.
