[leukemia cell inhibitory activity] This biochemically uncharacterized cell surface-associated glycoprotein is expressed by an endothelial-like clone derived from mouse bone marrow stroma (MBA-2.1) and also by thymic stroma-derived cell lines (see also: stromal cell line) (Zipori et al, 1986; Tamir et al, 1987).
LCIA is not detected in anchorage-dependent cells of nonhemopoietic origin (see also: hematopoiesis). LCIA selectively inhibits the growth of plasmacytomas. Tumors of the lymphoid lineage and plasmacytomas in particular are the most sensitive to LCIA. Myeloid, macrophage, and erythroleukemia tumors are resistant to LCIA, as are normal hemopoietic target cells
