[lysosome-associated membrane glycoprotein-2] In the nomenclature of CD antigen this protein has been given the designation CD107b.
LAMP-2 is an abundant protein component of the lysosomal membrane (Kornfeld and Mellman, 1989). LAMP-2 is an abundant protein component of the lysosomal membrane. It is a type 1 transmembrane proteins with a large luminal domain, one transmembrane domain, and a C-terminal cytoplasmic tail. The cytosolic tail contains necessary information for its intracellular targeting after biosynthesis (Hunziker et al, 1996). The study of knock-out mice lacking LAMP-1, a related protein, shows that LAMP-2 can partically compensate for the lack of LAMP-1 (Andrejewski et al, 1999).
