(approved gene symbol) [Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DL1] This human inhibitory NK-cell receptor for MHC class I molecules is a type I transmembrane protein (348 amino acids) containing an immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibititory motif (see: ITIM). The cDNA has been cloned by Colonna and Samaridis (1995), who called it NKAT1 [NK-associated transcript-1]. The protein has been identified independently by Wagtmann et al (1995), who called it CL42 [clone 42]. Kim et al (1997) have identified the same receptor as KIR-K6.
The gene is expressed in NK-cells but not in T-cells
