This CXC-Chemokine of 111 amino acids has been obtained from the Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus (Kim et al, 2007). The closest relatives of this chemokine are members of the CXCL13 subgroup. The flounder chemokine gene is expressed in immune-related organs, including head kidney, trunk kidney, spleen and peripheral blood leukocytes. Japanese flounder CXC chemokine gene expression is observed in response to bacterial lipopolysaccharides but not after treatment with poly(I:C).
