This human EBV negative myeloma cell line secretes large amounts of HGF into the conditioned medium (Hjorth-Hansen et al, 1999). The cells are CD138(-), CD19(+), CD20(-), CD56(+). As determined by RT-PCR, the cells also express IL6, IL6 receptor, and TNF-beta (Gooding et al, 1999). The cells constitutively shed syndecan-1, a cell surface proteoglycan thought to act as a co-receptor for certain extracellular matrix proteins and growth factors (Holen et al, 2001).
