[Interleukin-like EMT inducer] Sequence analysis shows that ILEI is identical with FAM3C [cytokine-like protein family with sequence similarity 3 member C].
This secreted protein has been identified by Waerner et al (2006). The protein is expressed specifically during epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in mouse mammary epithelial cells. Stable overexpression of ILEI in these cells causes epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, tumor growth, and metastasis, independent of TGF-beta receptor signaling and enhanced BCL2 expression. Knock-down of ILEI expression before and after epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition prevents and reverts
