[IFN-gamma inducing factor] The new term IL18 (Interleukin-18; see also: Interleukins) is now used for this factor.
The gene encoding this factor of 157 amino acids has been cloned by Okamura et al (1995). IGIF does not display sequence similarities to other known proteins. However, a survey of the sequence by fold recognition methods suggests that IGIF belongs to the IL1 family of cytokines. Murine and human IGIF show 65 % homology. Rat and murine IGIF display 91 % homology at both the nucleotide and the amino acid level.
