[islet-brain-2] This protein is related to IB1. The gene symbol is MAPK8IP2 [mitogen-activated protein kinase 8-interacting protein 2]. Yasuda et al (1999) have cloned the IB2 gene from a brain cDNA library and referred to it as JIP2 [JNK interacting protein 2], showing that the protein facilitates signal transmission by the protein kinase cascade involving MLK [mixed-lineage kinase] MKK7 [MAP kinase kinase 7] and JNK.
IB2 is expressed in brain and in pancreatic cells, including insulin secreting cells. Like IB1, ectopic expression of IB2 can decrease pancreatic beta-cell
