[islet-brain-1] This rat protein is a regulator of pancreatic beta-cell function. It is a DNA-binding transactivator of the glucose transporter GLUT2 encoded by the MAPK8IP1 gene and has been described as MAPK8IP1 [mitogen-activated protein kinase 8-interacting protein 1] (Waeber et al, 2000). The expression of an antisense transcript for IB1 in a insulinoma beta-cell line causes a reduction in GLUT2 and insulin production (Waeber et al, 2000).
