Makino et al (2001) have identified Hornerin as a differentiation-specific marker in mouse skin. Hornerin is detected in the granular and cornified layers of the mature epidermis. In the granular cells of the epidermis, the hornerin protein is detected in keratohyalin granules together with profilaggrin.
