This antimicrobial peptide, termed Fi-Histin, with the sequence SRSSRAGLQFPVGRIHRLLRK has been isolated from the Indian whit shrimp Fenneropenaeus indicus. It is derived from Histone H2A (Sruthy et al, 2019). The synthetic peptide disrupts the cell membrane and exhibits significant antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria especially against Vibrio vulnificus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio cholera and Staphylococcus aureus. The synthetic peptide is not hemolytic and also possesses DNA binding activity and found to be non-haemolytic at the tested concentrations. For bioactive fragments of histone proteins see also:
