Halocidin is an antimicrobial peptide (subunit A: WLNALLHHGLNCAKGVLA; subunit B: ALLHHGLNCAKGVLA) isolated from the from hemocytes of the tunicate Halocynthia aurantium. Halocidin is active against Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria. It is not hemolytic for human erythrocytes (Jang et al, 2002, 2005). The peptide has been shown to be active also against Candida albicans and two Aspergillus species (Jang et al, 2006).
