[human tumor clonogenic cell assay] This assay involves soft agar colony formation by human tumor cells (see: Colony formation assay). It is utilized generally to measure the sensitivity of human tumors to anticancer drugs. Results observed are taken to reflect the therapeutic efficacy of a drug.

This test is also useful in assaying the cytotoxicity of lymphocytes (and factors secreted by them) against tumor cells. The test has been used also as an evaluation method for drug targeting.
