[hepatocyte stimulating factor-3] This factor is produced constitutively by cultured keratinocytes and squamous carcinoma cell lines (COLO-16). It induces the same spectrum of acute phase proteins (see also: acute phase reaction) in cultured hepatoma cells as IL6 (Baumann et al, 1989).

The factor is identical with LIF [leukemia inhibitory factor], the activity of which is completely neutralized by antibodies directed against HSF-3 (Baumann and Wong, 1989).
