[high mobility group nucleosomal binding protein 2] This protein is known also as HMG17 [high mobility group protein 17], one of the non-histone nuclear proteins that consists of 89 amino acids (Walker et al, 1977). This nucleosomal protein is an evolutionarily conserved non-histone protein found in the nuclei of higher eukaryotes (Landsman et al, 1986). The protein is thought to be involved in the regulation of chromatin structure and transcriptional activation of mammalian genes (Bustin et al, 1995; Paranjape et al, 1995; Porkka et al, 2002).
