[human 14 kDa laminin binding protein] this lectin has been identified by Castronovo et al (1992) in melanoma cells. It is identical with 14 kDa galactoside binding soluble L-14 lectin. The new designation is Galectin-1 encoded by the LGALS1 [galactose-specific soluble lectin 1] gene.
