[HGF activator inhibitor type 2, Hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitor-2, HGFA inhibitor-2] This protein has been isolated by Kawaguchi et al (1997) from the human MKN45 stomach carcinoma cell line by virtue of its ability to inhibit the activity on hepatocyte growth factor activator. HAI-2 is derived from a precursor protein of 252 amino acids and 2 is a member of the Kunitz family of serine protease inhibitors (also designated SPINT2 [serine peptidase inhibitor Kunitz type 2]).
