Granulins are cyteine-rich proteins with cytokine-like activities of approximately 54-56 amino acids and homologous with Epithelin-1 (see: Epithelins) (Bateman et al, 1990). The precursor for the granulins and epithelins is a secreted glycoprotein, termed Acrogranin, containing multiple repeats of a granulin/epithelin sequence motif.
