[Genes associated with Retinoid-IFN induced Mortality] Angell et al (2000) have observed that a combination of IFN-beta and all-trans-retinoic acid induces cell death in tumor cells (for a review see: Kalvakolanu, 2004). They have isolated several genes associated with Retinoid acid/IFN induced mortality.
GRIM-12 [Gene associated with Retinoid-IFN induced Mortality-12] has been shown to be identical with human thioredoxin reductase (TR), an enzyme that controls intracellular redox states (Hofmann et al, 1998). Overexpression of GRIM-12 causes a small amount of cell death and further enhances the susceptibility of cells to IFN-RA induced death.
