[glucocorticoid induced tumor necrosis factor receptor family related gene] GITR is a type 1 transmembrane protein of 228 amino acids belonging to the TNF NGF receptor family of proteins (Gurney et al, 1999; Nocentini et al, 2000). It contains three cysteine pseudorepeats in the extracellular domain and is similar to CD27 and 4-1BB in the intracellular domain. Several splice variants of GITR have been described (Nocentini et al, 2000). The approved gene symbol for GITR is TNFRSF18 [TNF receptor superfamily member 18]. In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD357.
