[Glial growth-promoting factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor is produced by antigen- or lectin-stimulated T-lymphocytes and human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV)-infected cell lines (Beneveniste et al, 1985; Merrill et al, 1989). GGPF exists as a dimer of 30 kDa and a monomer of 18 kDa. Both forms have biological activity. The factor stimulates the proliferation of rat brain oligodendrocytes and astrocytes. The factor may be involved in remyelinization processes following traumatic nerve injuries (see also: wound healing) (Beneveniste et al, 1985).
