(approved gene symbol) [Fibroblast growth factor-12] This protein is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family of proteins and was identified originally as FHF-1 [fibroblast growth factor homologous factor-1], giving rise also to various splice isoforms (see: FHF).
The protein has been shown to act as an intracellular signaling molecule and binds directly to the MAP kinase scaffold protein IB-2 [islet brain-2] (Schoorlemmer and Goldfarb, 2001). Liu et al (2001) have reported that the protein associates with the tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium channel rNa(v)1.9a (NaN).
