F-spondin
F-spondin has been identified as a protein expressed and secreted at high levels in the floor plate, a cell group implicated in the control of neural cell pattern and axonal growth in the developing vertebrate nervous system (Klar et al, 1992).
The bovine homolog of F-spondin has been identified independently as VSGP [Vascular smooth muscle cell growth-promoting factor]. F-spondin is also being referred to as SPON1 [spondin-1], which is the approved gene symbol. For a bioactive fragment (see also: cryptides) of F-spondin see: Spondinstatin-1.
