[enhancer trap locus 2] Etl2 is a member of the cytokine type 1 receptor family (see also: Cytokine receptor families).
Among type 1 receptors murine Etl2 is most similar to the alpha subunits of the human ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) receptor and the mouse IL6 receptor with 32 and 30 % identical amino acids, respectively.
Etl2 expression is detected from day 9 post coitum onward in mesenchymal cells throughout the embryo and in parts of the nervous system. At later stages, Etl2 transcripts are abundant in regions containing chondro- and osteoprogenitor cells. Etl2 mRNA is not detected in mature odontoblasts, chondroblasts
