abbr. ENX2. This protein has been purified from human placental extracts by Schlaepfer et al (1987). The protein binds calcium ions and also binds to liposomes containing phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine in a Ca2+-dependent manner.
The protein was termed endonexin-2 as it shows 74 % sequence identity with bovine endonexin. Endonexin-2 has extensive homology with Ca2+ binding proteins termed annexins and the partial sequence can be aligned with that of lipocortin-1 and calpactin-1. Kaplan et al (1988) have cloned the human cDNA and shown that the gene is expressed in human cell lines
