[Echis carinatus sochureki Cysteine-rich secretory protein] This protein, which shares over 50 % sequence identity with CRISP3 [cysteine-rich secretory protein-3], has been isolated from Echis carinatus sochureki venom. ES-CRISP has been shown to block endothelial cell proliferation, migration and tube formation in Matrigel assays. In the embryonicquail chorioallantoic membrane assay, ES-CRISP abolishes neovascularization induced by exogenous growth factors such as bFGF or vpVEGF and by developing gliomas. ES-CRISP also modulates the expression of several factors at the mRNA level, which were characterized as regulators of angiogenesis and blocks the activation of MAPK
