[endopeptidase 24.15/16] This designation refers to the two metalloproteinases Thimet oligopeptidase (Endopeptidase 24.15; abbr. EP24.15) and neurolysin (endopeptidase 24.16; abbr. EP24.16). The term reflects the observation that both enzymes are highly similar with respect to the length of their peptide substrates and the cleavage sites on bioactive and synthetic peptides. In publications the use of this term may indicate simply that both enzymes show the reported bioactivities.
