[epithelial cell inflammatory protein-1] The gene for this factor was identified as a gene differentially expressed in epithelial cells (Madin-Darby bovine kidney, MDBK cells) during an inflammatory response. The protein is a member of the family of CXC-Chemokines. It is closely related (89 % identity) to GRO-gamma (see: MGSA).
